How To Eat More Nutritious Foods Without Restriction or Dieting

Every year, you set goals to become a new, healthier version of yourself, and every year, you try to exercise, eat healthier, meditate and do all the healthy things all at once.

This year I want to encourage you to reset your mindset about what a healthy lifestyle looks like. It’s time to take a more gentle approach and start working towards ways to achieve holistic wellness through achievable goals. One amazing goal to start with is learning how to eat nutritiously without heavily restricting yourself.

Today, I am partnering with Shady Brook Farms to show you a simple, and easy way to create a nutritious meal.  Shady Brook Farms has a variety of turkey options that you can incorporate into your meals. I also love that the turkeys are humanely and responsibly raised by independent family farmers with no growth promoting antibiotics, added hormones or steroids!

Shady Brook Farms advocates for holistic wellness and taking small steps toward a healthy lifestyle.

Knowing how to eat in a way that is nutritious, satisfying and unrestrictive is a concept that can be hard to grasp when you are so used to applying strict rules to the way that you eat. Food freedom is a way to alleviate anxiety around food and is so beneficial to those who are ready to ditch restrictive eating habits.

If you are ready to live an anti-diet lifestyle focused on holistic health, it takes a lot of time to make that shift  -- in addition to relearning how to listen to your body, you still desire to eat a balanced diet that includes nutrient dense foods.

Even so, you haven’t quite figured out how to incorporate more nutritious foods without slipping back into dieting and restricting.
And I totally get it.

When I first started a journey to food freedom, I had a hard time figuring out what to eat because I was so used to forcing myself to eat what I thought was the most healthy foods and restricting anything that I deemed as “bad”

Since I struggled with Orthorexia and Bulimia, I was afraid that eating “healthy” would cause me to slip back into eating disorder behaviors, but I was also afraid that I would eat too many “unhealthy” foods without those rules in place.

Once I was healed from my eating disorder, I realized that I had to stop complicating food, and discovered my favorite way to create nutritious meals without much thought

The easiest way for me to eat nutritiously is to always have a variety of foods on hand including protein, vegetables, fruits, and your favorite snacks.  I believe this is the BEST way to learn how to eat in a way that is both satisfying and delicious, without causing anxiety and overcomplicating your meals.
Ground turkey is one of my favorite proteins to have on hand because you can cook it in a variety of ways. I am currently using the Shady Brook Farms Ground Turkey. It has 21 grams of lean protein, so it is perfect to cook up after a good strength based workout.

Once I learned how to stop making my meals complicated I thought of the One-Pot Bowl.

This concept involves creating a meal in one pot and can be used for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It’s versatile because you can use any meat you love, any veggie you love and create an easy and savory meal in about 15 minutes. For someone like me who has a busy lifestyle and is not a huge cook, I needed something very easy to prepare - this does not disappoint!

The One Pot Bowl saved me from having to put thought into planning meals and risk falling back into unhealthy, and disordered eating behaviors.

Today, I am using Shady Brook Farms Ground Turkey to show you one of my many one pot bowls - the Chile Lime Turkey Breakfast Bowl.

First, I don’t want you to treat this like a typical recipe. There are no exact measurements and no perfect ingredients. Adapt it to your tastes! Add your favorite vegetables and seasonings because the possibilities are endless.

I promise, once you start using the One-Pot Bowl method, you won’t have to worry about creating easy meals! You will also have a variety of ideas at your fingertips

Ingredients

How To Eat More Nutritious Foods Without Restriction or Dieting
  • Shady Brook Farms Ground Turkey

  • Spinach (or your favorite green veggie. I often use Kale, Swiss Chard, or Collards)

  • Green Onions

  • 2 eggs

  • Chile Lime Seasoning (Mine is from Trader Joes )

  • Salt and Pepper

Step 1: Prepare Your Vegetables

If you have bunched spinach, you’ll want to chop it up. I use baby spinach that is already ready to go.

Chop your green onions

Step 2: Add Meat To Pan

I use about ¼ pound of turkey for a single serving. Add your seasoning in this step so the meat has the most flavor.

Step 3: Add Spinach

After the turkey is cooked through, add the spinach.

Step 4: Add The Egg

Last I crack the eggs in the post and scramble it all together.

Step 5: Place in Bowl and Eat

See? Super Easy! I like to eat this with a side of toast or a bagel for a complete meal. This is my absolute favorite thing to make after a morning workout.

The best part is the minimal clean up after cooking.

About Shady Brook Farms

The turkey is the BEST I’ve tried. Usually, turkey has a tendency to dry out, but I did not have that issue here.
