WHY YOU SHOULDN'T BE AFRAID OF THE THRIFT STORE (EVEN IF YOU HAVE A REPUTABLE COACHING BUSINESS)
You are stalking your favorite style blogger on Instagram for inspiration, and you see that she mentioned her shirt was from the thrift store. You couldn't believe it and have never actually tried to find clothes at the thrift store.
When you started coaching, you knew you needed to look good but have no clue what to buy. You want to show your personality while looking professional (and finally getting out of those yoga pants.)
Many people expect clothes to be dirty and unusable but it is quite the opposite. Sure you may have to sift through a few horrible items, but you will find great stuff! The reason you shouldn't be afraid of the thrift store is because it allows you to find pieces with personality without breaking the bank. It's not even that you don't have the money to buy new clothes, you just don't want to. I get it, sometimes you have to choose between clothes and something for your business (this usually wins) but at some point, you need to direct some attention to your clothes.
A temporary wardrobe boosts can cost you about $20 if you are willing to take a little time looking! Often times, you can find new items with tags on them. In my case, I've developed an eye to find these great gyms like this coat and these boots!
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
There are two main categories I look for when I go to the thrift store:
1. High Quality Basics
2. Off-beat and creative items
The reason why these categories work well, is because you are able to find timeless basics that will not be dated. For more creative pieces, you can dabble in a trend without spending a lot and adding your own spin on it.
HOW TO SHOP
The first thing you want to have in mind is that you are not there to purchase anything you think looks cool or different. Have a specific look in mind and be picky about what you buy. There are s many gems that you might go crazy and leave with two garbage bags. If you have purged your closet already, that is going to prove counterproductive.
√ have a specific look in mind
√ don't buy everything you think is cool
√ check the garment condition
√ buy unique and timeless pieces
