How To Quickly Expand Your Wardrobe This Fall
Summer days are long gone but as the temperature continues to drop, your summer clothes can still come out to play. We often think of our closet as separate wardrobes, but the goal is to make it cohesive enough that you can still use the same pieces all year. (Obviously you won't wear a fuzzy sweater in the middle of summer, just roll with me here)
For the first part of fall, Midwesterners tend to have this "mixed weather" that makes it hard to dress. Through that, layering becomes second nature as you prepare for 40 degree mornings with possible 80 degree afternoons.
Here are a few quick tips to give your wardrobe more options by utilizing a 3 key pieces as the temperature drops.
Your best friends for layering are:
The Long Sleeve Tee
The Denim Jacket
You've already started adding in most of these pieces and progressively, they will be utilized more and layered with other pieces.
The outfit pictured here is a partially transitioned look. It was a little chilly, so I opted for a long sleeve shirt. In a week or two, I would add tights and socks under the skirt. This method is the perfect way to take your summer skirts through fall. Opt for a color that can easily be paired with fall/winter colors to keep the color scheme seasonal.
This will also work for some of your summer dresses. Other options are adding button downs and turtlenecks underneath your dresses for warmth.
It is that simple.
We have a tendency to forget about some pieces as it get's colder but in most cases, they can be easily transitioned and worn through fall and winter. To get your creativity flowing her are a few more ideas:
- wear a dress over your jeans and add a chunky sweater
- Add leggings to your favorite summer dress and toss on a shorter sweater
- Thigh high boots + tights with your favorite skirt
- Socks with pumps
- Sweater over a denim jacket, over a long sleeve shirt :)
Until next time! Happy layering.
